How to Get Your Money Right So You Can Stay Home With Your Kids

In this episode of The His & Her Money Show, we have Erin Odom, the brainchild of The Humbled Homemaker and an accomplished author of the brand new book You Can Stay Home With Your Kids. Before they had children, Erin and her husband were working as teachers. After getting married, they experienced marital difficulties and went through a really hard time.

When their family started growing, they began to question themselves: why didn’t they save one of their salaries. To help finance the family’s needs, they had to cut some things from the budget to make ends meet.

Before she started working from home, Erin prayed for wisdom on which path to take. One of the reasons why their decisions were successful is that they put God at the center of the family. Even if she stayed at home, it didn’t stop her from helping with the finances – she started looking for different options online to put more money in the bank.

Erin also mentions that she doesn’t nag her husband because whenever does, it pushes him away. She likes to teach her kids the importance of doing chores, so they can be self-sufficient.

To help save money and extend their budget, the family shops in the clearance section of stores and for markdown produce in the market, bruised products that are not attractive but still can be used, and meats on promotions. They don’t buy convenience foods. According to Erin, tracking what you spend helps fix your income problems.
