On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, we have another shining example of a debt-free story from our guest, Jill Stuefer, who is an office coordinator and wedding photographer based in Kansas City, MO. Jill shares with us how she and her husband paid off their debts in just 430 days! How can this possibly happen? Check out her incredible journey and learn much more!
Jill and her husband’s debts initially comprised student loans for both of them and car payments. It was after they bought a house and got married that they realized they needed to kick off their debts to enjoy life.
They were very fortunate to be part of a small group in their church that attended financial classes given by Dave Ramsey. They found loopholes that helped them accelerate the process of paying off debt. Furthermore, they decided to sell their first home and downsize to an apartment. It was the first stepping stone they had in their lives.
We are more focused on what is better for our future than what is going to make us feel good right now.
Being young in their careers, both of them were not making a ton of money, enough to pay off debt quickly. It was going to be hard, but they learned to live on one income. They worked on everything and kept motivated. Jill used her passion for photography and made some money at it. Having no children yet was an advantage in having more time to earn money, so a full-time job at the same time became growing a side business.
They had a very tight budget lifestyle until they handed over their last payment. For Jill, there was an unexplainable feeling. All the sacrifices were all worth it. Happy tears raced down her cheeks. She was thankful for all the things they had been through.
Now, their futures are so bright and debt-free. They can go on a vacation without worrying about emptying their pockets since the debts are paid off. Moreover, they now get to enjoy things much more and have a clearer plan and goals. Worry-free life attained!
