Unrealistic expectations and poor communication may be the two things that can cause trouble in a relationship, and can also hinder family goals. When it comes to paying off debt, it is crucial for a couple to get on the same page to be able to face challenges head-on through the journey.
Our guest on this episode of The His & Her Money Show is Jackie Freeman. She shares with us the story of her journey; the ups and downs, the struggles and trials, and the aftermath of her victory over debt.
This is the story of a couple who chose to face life’s difficulties along with the challenge of getting out of debt, and were able to keep some things they hold dear, along with paying off nearly $100,000 with gazelle intensity!
It took persistence, prayer, and some strategies, for Jackie to finally convince her husband to join her and be on the same page with her. Even then, when it came to budgeting, Jackie and her husband struggled on creating and implementing strategies to become debt-free.
After a lot of compromises, struggles, prayer, and faith, Jackie and her husband finally found common ground with their budgeting. Life keeps throwing more challenges to Jackie and her husband, but since they resolved their path to reach debt-freedom, they were intense… gazelle intense to paying off over $50,000 of their debt in 27 months! They became a powerful couple.
You have to get into the hard times and experience that to be able to live out the good times.
Jackie and her husband took a short break after paying off their debt. Learning from their experience, it was much smoother, faster, and easier when they decided to tackle their next challenge: paying off their house. Jackie and her husband won these battles and came out victorious over their debt.
Jackie and her husband’s journey to financial freedom gave them more than being unchained from debt. Their marriage was strengthened, and they are now able to chase down other dreams, and they are able to give without worry and regret. As Jackie says, “All of these goals and dreams that we have that takes some money that you have to put on hold because you’re tied to debt, that’s not what’s God’s plan is for us.”
