Debt comes in all shapes and forms. Maybe you’re living in the paycheck to paycheck cycle, actively fighting the good fight for financial freedom.
Or maybe the debt is there and you’re just not realizing the extent of your financial stronghold at all. Sometimes it takes an unexpected nudge to realize it’s time to take action, and when you do, it might be surprising what you do to get on the right path.
Bradie Claydon — a paralegal also known as @kiwigirlonabudget on Instagram — has been there and almost done it all. She’s here with us today on The His & Her Money Show with the incredible story of how she and her husband are taking back total control of their finances and paid $402,000 of their $522,000 debt in one year!
Bradie and her husband were living comfortably until The Big Short, a movie they saw while on a weekend away in Auckland City, opened their eyes to their reality.
Under two mortgages and massive credit card debt, they realized that they were sitting on interest-only payments and very little savings, and not taking the steps necessary to eliminate their debt as quickly as possible.
That’s when it all changed. They immediately put their all into chasing debt freedom, including selling their car, their rental home, and any personal property they could do without to put towards destroying that $522,000. And they did!
The fight is still on as Bradie and her husband continue to pay off their remaining debt, but they’re certain that if they continue to put their inspiring time and effort into the cause, they’ll be debt-free in no time — and you can be too!
