Tony Robbins says setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. Do you have a dream to be debt-free?
Do you long to cut up your credit cards and pay that last payment on your car loan? Then take the first step and make a decision. You will pat yourself on the back later on for making such a wise decision.
On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, Amber Guyton, a single 32-year-old, shares her journey to debt freedom. She has a Bachelor’s in Advertising, an MBA in Marketing, and works at a bank in Product Management and Marketing.
On top of that, she has an interior design company of 3 years called Blessed Little Bungalow. The $98,000 debt she paid off consisted of student loans, a car loan, and credit card debt. She kicked her debt to the curb in 25 months.
What She Was Taught
From an early age, Amber was taught to use credit cards and to save only a little bit of her money. By reading books, she now understands that saving is paying yourself first and investing in your future.
Her Turning Point
One of the turning points for Amber was when she was earning twice as much money as before but she did not have anything to show for it due to bad spending habits. She started listening to The His and Her Money Show and learned how to stop the bad spending habits and how to change them into sound investing habits.
Amber created a budget. Once she faced the figures, she started throwing as much money to the debt as possible. Amber also scaled back on going out and buying clothes she didn’t really need. She used her bonus checks and her side hustle money to eliminate it in 25 months.
Her Motivations
To stay on track, Amber kept the end in mind. She was not only doing this for herself, but she was also doing it to break generational curses in her family. To help her family was one of her motivating factors.
Your Story Can Help Others
Amber’s mom and friends saw the difference in her and it rubbed off on them. They, (she and her sister), pooled their money and paid off their mom’s car.
Entrepreneur It
Her mom encouraged her to start her own business after she saw the amazing job Amber did on her home. She started her business with $1500. It has grown in size.
She now consults with her clients to either do the whole build, help them choose the fabrics and objects that will suit them, or assist to stage a house that is for sale. This can be done in person or virtually.
Finally, No More Debt
Once she paid off her debt, the relief she felt was amazing. The next goal is to work out her saving and retirement plans.
