There are several different types of debt, but these days in America, some are considered more “normal” than others. Particularly, student loans. It’s not ideal, but at this point, it’s just another part of post-graduation life.
Having thousands and thousands of dollars owed in student loan debts is so common nowadays that it might just be considered the norm, but just because you CAN have everything paid off in 5, 10, maybe 15 years from now, doesn’t mean it has to be that way, and it definitely doesn’t mean you have to wait for that last sweet payoff. Your journey to financial freedom can start TODAY!
On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, it’s time for another awesome debt freedom story. This time, Leslie de Leon is here to talk to us about her student loan debt – a whopping $50,000 of it – and how she found the tools, the mindset, and most importantly, the motivational drive to break the chain and kick her debt to the curb once and for all, to wind up completely debt-free today in just 26 months!
Leslie is all about living life to the fullest, and without restraints, in all aspects of your life, which is a big part of the reason that she decided to pay off her loans way sooner rather than later. She didn’t want to owe anybody- especially for a long period of time and in a way that would hugely affect her lifestyle.
So, hanging onto her student loans just didn’t fit. Leslie went all-in on eliminating her debt, through budgeting, planning, and saving, saving, saving.
One of her most interesting outlets was her main side hustle to success: a seasoned babysitter, she babysat her way through school and all the way down the road to her ultimate debt payoff and continues to do so today to pad her savings.
She also developed a diverse skillset through freelancing to make some more money on the side, and even though she missed her original goal – to pay off her debt in a year – once the momentum picked up again, she was right back on track. And as you can see, all that hard work pays off!
