In this “In the Middle” episode, we talk to Anthony and Luan, a couple that has just finished paying off 15k of credit card debt in the past 7 months.
They are still “in the middle” of their debt-free journey, and they now plan to take on their student loans and mortgage in the hopes of eliminating all debt.
Anthony and Luan both met while they were heavy in credit card debt. Although they had both started paying off their debt independently, when they got married, they made active and strict plans to pay off their credit card debt.
This proved to be difficult, since they both had different goals and approaches towards finances – however, as they have now progressed towards the middle of their journey, both Anthony and Luan can attest that their efforts have only strengthened their marriage.
Anthony and Luan share how they kept themselves motivated, both individually and as a couple. Anthony stayed laser-focused throughout the journey by tracking expenses and always keeping his eyes on the numbers, while Luan made sure to surround herself with encouraging influences and people.
Despite their different approaches, what kept them on track ended up being each other. Anthony and Luan share how they kept each other accountable and checked each other’s spending not as restrictions, but as a sign of respect.
Now, Anthony and Luan have an 8-year plan to pay off their student loans and mortgage and have themselves become an inspiration to family and friends around them to tackle debt.
We’re certain that their strategies and stories will motivate you to look at debt-freedom as, not a payment for the past, but an investment in your future freedom and goals.
