On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, we have a fantastic conversation with author Michael Holmes. He looked at Christian millionaires and billionaires by studying their stories, patterns, and strategies.
The reason why he studied only successful Christians is that in 1 Peter 2:21, the Word says: To this, you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He wanted to only follow in the footsteps of people who were following Christian principles.
Humble Beginnings
Michael’s story started when he was unemployed, in debt, broke, and near to divorce from his very pregnant wife. Someone suggested welfare but he said no to that idea. So Michael prayed and asked God what to do and was led to Malachi 3:10-12.
It was there that he read “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
Michael was very dumbfounded. He needed money. He didn’t want to give it away. Michael felt the Lord say: Test me on this and see what happens. He tried to get information on tithing, but couldn’t find much.
So he decided he was going to start accumulating the information himself. After being a non-tither for many years, he started to tithe consistently. Slowly but surely, little things started to go right. He started budgeting and paying off debt and his consistent actions paid off.
Success Habits of Christian Millionaires
In his book, Success Habits of Christian Millionaires, he shares their secrets and habits. The commonalities that Michael found with the Christian millionaires and billionaires were: that they always seek God first, they are good money managers, they have a big vision with goals and deadlines, and THEY NEVER GIVE UP!
The way you hear from God is by getting in the Word, pray, seek counsel, and fast. He will show you what to do, where to go, and who to speak to. And then, DO what He tells you what to do. Many of the Christian millionaires worked their 9-5 jobs while they started their companies.
Don’t jump into the harbor before the ship has appeared. Another characteristic of Christian millionaires and billionaires is they go the extra mile and do things over and above what is expected of them with a great attitude.
Michael encourages the listeners to follow the desires of their hearts because it was given to them by our heavenly Father. Go and look up the promises that God states in His Word, stand on them, and remind Him of them.
Get to know yourself. Are you a good money manager, are you a tither, are you industrious, do you go the extra mile, and do you serve other people? God will then show you what to do. Now go for it. You can do it!
